JORDAN Taylor has just received his trophy after becoming one of the youngest club champions in the country.
The 14-year-old stunned his elders by winning the Hinksey Heights Championship back in August.
It came as a big surprise as Jordan, who lives in Greater Leys, plays off a 14 handicap, while there are numerous golfers in the club off single figures.
Taylor fired rounds of 87 and 84 for a winning total of 171, that's 23 over par for the tough course, with many players having trouble with the slick greens.
That score also won him the handicap championship for the day. So he completed a rare double
The youngster is actually also a member at Southfield, but plays most of his golf at Hinksey where his mates are.
He is coached by David Cook, the teaching professional at Southfield, who predicts a bright future for the promising young player.
"By the end of next year, I would expect Jordan to be playing off low single figures, say four or five," said Cook.
"He's got such enthusiasm and appetite for the game that I expect him to make rapid progress."
Taylor, whose handicap has drifted between 13 and 15 of late, this year won the nett prizes at the junior opens run by Huntercombe, The Springs and Burford.
Taylor, who attends Matthew Arnold School, Cumnor, would like to have a career in golf, but knows it is very early days yet.
However, he has already achieved something that most golfers don't do in a whole lifetime - and that is become a club champion.
