The White Horse pub in Abingdon is the latest hostelry to join the fight against drink driving by becoming an Oxford Mail Big Softie.

The popular pub in Ox Street will be running a promotion where designated drivers can buy three soft drinks and get a fourth free.

Now in its second consecutive year, Be a Big Softie has already signed-up Raoul's cocktail bar, in Walton Street, the Longwall Beefeater, at Oxford Business Park, and a host of others, including iZi wine bar in Market Square Witney, the Lion, in High Street, Culham, and the Eagle and Child, in St Giles.

Licensee of the White Horse, Kim Gresty said: "We take the fight against drink driving very seriously and are therefore delighted to join the Be a Big Softie campaign.

"We want to help make sure people have a great time this Christmas without coming to harm.

"Our offer is on now until after the New Year Bank Holiday."

In Oxford, the Big Softies at Bar Risa in Hythe Bridge Street, are offering revellers two soft drinks for the price of one.

Over at the Hi-Lo Jamaican Eating House, in Cowley Road, owners Jan and Andy Anderson are offering 30p off all soft drinks to all designated drivers from now until the New Year.

Craig Morton, manager of Kazbar, in Cowley Road, has also dropped the price of all soft drinks by 25p, as of now.

The Park End Club, in Park End Street, is offering free soft drinks to drivers from the week before Christmas, until just after New Year.

At Jude the Obscure, in Walton Street, manager Sam Burden will be running a promotion for about 12 days over Christmas whereby people who buy three soft drinks can get a fourth for free.

At O'Neills, in George Street, soft drinks will be free on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.

Meanwhile at Yates, also in George Street, the management has brought in a range of offers to help cut back on drink driving.

Anyone who buys a round of alcoholic drinks and says they are the designated driver gets a free coke, and over the weekends coke, diet coke and lemonade are also half price.

There is still time for pubs, clubs and bars to become involved in Be a Big Softie and everyone who joins will get a mention in the Oxford Mail.
