Uruguayan defender Mateo Corbo has been cleared to make his Oxford United debut against League Two leaders Yeovil at the Kassam Stadium tomorrow.
He has signed until the end of the season after the club received international clearance.
And the 28-year-old from Montevideo is likely to come into the team as the left-sided centre back.
U's boss Ramon Diaz believes Corbo will add strength to the team, who are intent on avenging their 6-1 mauling at Yeovil four months ago.
"Corbo has signed and he will start," Diaz confirmed.
"He is strong, has a good left foot and can make the defence more solid, and he brings experience.
"He has sprit and he fits into the group easily because he speaks English, and he understands this championship from having played here before for Barnsley."
Corbo has been training with the team for well over a week, and Diaz says that, although there are many triallists now at the club, they too may be eased in slowly.
"We are taking time to look at the players and at the way they acclimatise," he said, speaking through translator Jean-Marc Goiran.
"We ask the fans to give us time to be sure we get the team right. But we like how the fans are behind us and we need them against Yeovil tomorrow!"
Other players are expected to sign next week, if they show Diaz and his coaches that they look as though they can do a job in League Two.
But the Argentines are also looking to strengthen the reserves, after twice seeing them perform poorly.
"We are looking also at young English players and are talking with other clubs about these players," he said. "We have seen the reserves lose 5-2 and 4-0 and we want the whole club to get better. We want to work on this project to improve both teams."
They have already inquired about a Reading player who impressed them in the Pontin's Holidays Combination game at Court Place Farm on Wednesday.
"We have spoken to Reading and they responded favourably," Goiran said.
The Yeovil game will have quite an international feel to it with Uruguayan Corbo probably lining up alongside Doudou, from the Democratic Republic of Congo, in the United side managed by Argentinians with the help of translators from Monaco interpreting in both Spanish and Italian.
Yeovil, managed by Gary Johnson, who was formerly boss of Latvia, include Latvian striker Andrejs Stolcers, Aussie Adrian Caceres and the Pole Bartosz Tarachulski.
Oxford will be without Chris Hackett, who completes his three-game suspension, and Jamie Brooks, through injury.
