Australian-born Gina G, who has lived just outside Burford for the past two years, last carried Britain's standard in the 1996 Eurovision Song Contest, finishing seventh with Ooh Aah, Just a Little Bit.

Now she is hoping viewers will give her another shot at success when she appears on BBC1's Making Your Mind Up UK Eurovision Selection Show tonight.

Ooh Aah shot to Number One in the charts and stayed in the top five for nearly three months, making her one of the most successful acts Britain has ever had at Eurovision.

But when Gina Watson-Smith is not promoting her latest song, Flashback, she loves to be at home in the Cotswolds.

Gina first heard about the area when she met husband-to-be Charlie Watson-Smith in America.

She said: "When I first met Charlie in Los Angeles and he told me about the area, I said 'it's Jilly Cooper-ville'.

Gina added: "I don't know about the racey aspects, but otherwise she's spot on. I had my baby Dylan last year, who will be one soon. I think that the country is the best place for a baby. I love the country life. It's beautiful."

But Cotswold life has not taken the edge off the singer's fighting spirit.

She said: "Everybody still says 'we was robbed' in 1996 so this is a chance to redeem myself and put things right and I'm going to seize it with both hands.

"I'm excited by the competition that I'll be facing and am going to give it my best shot -- Britain needs another win.

"People should vote for me, not just because we all know that I should have won in '96, but because I've got a great song that deserves to win."

Glamour model Jordan is the bookies' hot tip to win the vote, but Gina is sure she will come out on top.

She said: "Jordan doesn't have a musical background. Performance is everything and performing ability. I can't compete with Jordan's press coverage. She's everywhere and has even announced she's pregnant.

"But it's a song competition at the end of the day, and you need a great performance to win -- I don't think she would be a great representative for the British people."
