Dean makes world championships HATTI Dean, from Radley Ladies, secured a place in the Great Britain team for the World Cross Country Championships, after grabbing a bronze medal in the 4K race at the UK Cross Country Championships in Nottingham.
The decision of Paula Radcliffe not to chase a third world title at the championships in France later this month confirmed that Dean would take the last spot in the British team for the world event in St Galmier, Lyon, France on March 19 & 20.
Until Radcliffe opted to miss out, Dean, who will run in the 4k event, was not sure of her place.
"This is a dream for me," said the 23-year-old, who also won the British Universities' cross country title and a bronze medal in the senior women's race at last month's English National Cross Country Championships.
The 4K championship at Nottingham was Dean's second only outing over the distance.
She was prominent in the early stages, but by the end was left in a straight tussle for the bronze with Belgrave's Ethiopian-born Getanesh Tamirat.
In a thrilling finale, Dean claimed the bronze medal in 14mins 39secs - 15 seconds behind the winner.
