A motorcyclist was killed on the same stretch of road in south Oxfordshire as the Turk family, an inquest heard on March 9.

Jonathan Gaye, 34, died in February 2004 when he came off his bike on the A4130 at Gangsdown Hill, the place where six-year-old Jack Powell, his mother Rachel and stepfather Richard Turk were killed last year.

Mr Gaye's wife, Susan, told Oxford Coroner's Court her husband had set off for Brighton from their home in Fitzcount Way, Wallingford, on February 7.

Several witnesses described seeing the father-of-two travelling up Gangsdown Hill at about 9.40am. Dr Peter Thomas, who was travelling in his BMW in front of the motorcyclist, told the court he tried to overtake but spotted a car coming in the other direction and pulled back in.

Pc Andy Bryant, a collision investigator, told the court he believed Mr Gaye had braked and come off his bike, but that there had also been a second impact.

Coroner Nicholas Gardiner said: "This was an accidental event, although the circumstances are somewhat vague."
