I am surprised that Adam Symons, waste strategy manager for Oxfordshire County Council, has not chipped in about letters on the plastic recycling skips at the Redbridge site, off Abingdon Road, Oxford.
The large open skips for plastic, which had the large metal staircase at the side, were removed because people were placing the wrong sort of plastic in them. We now have smaller skips with holes in the side to accept mainly plastic bottles.
The lids to these skips are open mainly for staff members to get in and remove the unwanted plastic that is not worth recycling, not for people to catapult bags of bottles into the air, hoping they will go in. How do I know all this?
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out that when staff members are taking out of these skips plastic furniture, guttering and storage boxes, and placing them into the large item skips further along, it is the wrong plastic.
