A historian has co-written a new book which charts the history of north Oxfordshire's railways.
The Banbury & Cheltenham District Railway is a history of the railway and the surrounding area, with sections on Chipping Norton stations and the old Witney Railway.
Stanley Jenkins, of Apley Way, Witney, is the curatorial adviser at Witney & District Museum and the book's author.
He said: "The Banbury to Chipping Norton line was built in lots of little bits. The Chipping Norton railway was almost entirely promoted by William Bliss. the mill owner. He virtually was Chipping Norton.
"He needed a coal supply to run his mill."
The book also looks at notable events, like the eight-month Bliss Mill strike of 1913, and people like Charles Stewart Parnell, leader of the Irish Party and an ex-Chipping Norton Grammar School pupil.
The hardback book, which costs £24.99, is available from Lightmoor Press on 01993 773927 or at www.lightmoor.co.uk
