East Oxford residents are campaigning to save a cherry tree from being felled.
John Corble, 50, of Iffley Road, called the city council to warn officers that the tree, outside his house, was leaning over.
He was horrified when the council told him that it would have to fell it.
He said: " I now have a petition with more than 30 names on it, of people that don't want to see the tree disappear."
A council spokesman said the 50-year-old tree was infected with fungus and must be felled.
