An appeal has been made for people not to abandon unwanted animals after two pet rabbits were found dumped on the Ridgeway.
Betty Collins, of Palmers, Wantage, who is a volunteer for the Royal Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, said she was disgusted that the rabbits had been dumped.
They were found by her friend Brian Brady, of Truelocks Way, Wantage, on the national trail near the monument, off Chainhill Road, on Thursday (March 10) afternoon.
The rabbits were abandoned in a cardboard box which had been left open. One was caught, and has since been rehoused, but the other got away.
Mrs Collins said: "I think people who do things like that are disgusting, the RSPCA would always take in any unwanted animals off their hands. There is no need to dump them.
"Whoever did that left them to a cruel end as they will be killed by wild animals, taken by red kites or by a fox. I don't hold out any hope that the one that escaped will survive."
