The battle against illegal flyposting in Abingdon has been given a financial boost as the town council steps up its campaign to keep the town looking clean and tidy.
The town's Joint Environmental Trust - JET - a body funded by the Vale of White Horse District Council and the town council, has agreed to give the town council £2,782 towards the cost of removing flyposters from empty shop windows and buildings.
JET chairman Peter Green said: "A removal campaign was started last year and we want to continue his year in the drive to remove unsightly posters that make the town look scruffy.
"Posters are being removed much quicker now but we have to keep on our toes. It is all part of the Keep Britain Tidy campaign. We want people to take a pride in the community. Flyposting is a problem in many towns and I would like to see offenders prosecuted.
"Such a move, however, would need a by-law being passed and then there is the question of policing the problem and enforcing the law. It is not easy but the council is determined to rid the town of the menace of flyposting."
