A parent has created an online shopping directory which gives a percentage from every purchase to his child's primary school in Carterton.

Craig Harris developed the web shop, located at www.buy.at/Gatewayprimary, to raise money for Gateway Primary School, in Netheravon Close, where his 10-year-old son Samuel is a pupil.

Mr Harris, who is chairman of the Parent Teacher Association, said: "We have already raised £130 in two and a half months, without even doing anything.

"We are raising money for a new IT suite at the school with wireless laptops."

Mr Harris, who lives in Bovingdon Road, Carterton, with his wife Lisa, Samuel and three-year-old son Oliver, set up the website in November.

It works by allowing customers to browse tens of thousands of products from more than 80 retailers -- including many high street shops and supermarkets -- and a portion of anything they buy is passed on to the school.

Headteacher Gay Hennessy often uses the web shop and said it was an excellent idea.

She said: "It is a win-win situation. For people who buy things from the Internet anyway, it doesn't cost them any extra. All they need to do is go through the Gateway website and it directly benefits the children."

Eynsham Cricket Club has developed a similar web shop (www.buy.at/EynshamCricketClub), using Perfiliate Technologies, the company behind both schemes.

The sports club has already netted £214 in fundraising without even asking members to put their hands in their pockets.
