Referee Chris Banks has described the fracas in the first half of Tuesday's Oxfordshire Senior Cup semi-final between Oxford United and Thame United as "handbags".
Trouble erupted on 25 minutes when Oxford's Juan Pablo Raponi elbowed a Thame player after a reckless challenge.
Thame's Jon Gardner charged in before being hauled away by teammates, and then a spectator verbally abused Thame's boss Mark West.
Thame assistant manager Brett Chowns threw the ball at the spectator, knocking off his glasses.
None of the players involved was booked.
"Some players got frustrated and a few words were exchanged," said Banks. "It was nothing that we don't see every Saturday on football fields. It was handbags - kids in the kindergarten.
"I didn't see the ball being thrown. I won't be including any of the incident in my referee's report."
United won the game 5-2.
