'Tell us what you want' is the message going out to young people in Wallingford in a survey aimed at helping the town's teenagers.

Town councillors have asked youths to be sensible and consider the money needed when they put ideas forward, but they have been promised that reasonable requests will take priority.

Students at Wallingford School have been sent the questionnaire devised by town council member Simon Harrop.

It lists 23 activities already available, ranging from the youth centre in Clapcot Way to organisations like cadets and scouts, sports, aerobics, music, theatre and martial arts.

Councillors want to know if teenagers have tried any of them and, if none of the club activities appeal, whether there are other activities young people want.

Mr Harrop said: "We have asked the students to think carefully about what is likely to be achievable.

"We are looking for practical ideas that can be achieved with reasonable amounts of money and in a sensible time."

Mayor Theresa Jordan said: "Youngsters have as many rights as other people in the town and we want them as part of the town, not demonised as yobs and vandals."
