ABINGDON Ambler Ernie North earned himself a place in the record books on Saturday when he completed his tenth 40-mile race across the Berkshire Downs.
Finishing the Compton Harriers' tenth anniversary event in a time of eight hours 16 minutes, North became the only person to have completed all ten events.
To mark the occasion, the race organisers presented North with a unique commemorative medal made especially for him.
The 40-mile race featuress a tough challenge across woodland, downland and The Ridgeway and includes a 3,900 feet climb.
Also in action for Abingdon was Daphne Samworth, who finished in 9hrs .
Michelle Richards and Craig Sawyers, who took part in the shorter 20-mile version of the race finishing in 3.09 3.12 respectively.
Headington Roadrunners won the team event, thanks to great performances from Mark Richardson, Hanno Nickau and Marie-Anne Fischer.
Richardson (V40) finished fourth in 5.37.51 with Nickau (V40) crossing the line in seventh place in 5.59.22.
Fischer completed the team line-up, and was third in the ladies' race in 7.00.11.
