I refer to your story about Henk Giele, the plastic surgeon struck off for an alleged affair with a patient (Oxford Mail, March 22).
If you are unlucky enough to be a patient of our plastic surgeons at the Radcliffe Infirmary, Oxford, you could think yourself very lucky to be under the care of Mr Giele.
He is a master and a genius in this field. The verdict is a massive loss to the medical profession as well as an even bigger loss to his patients.
I would like to ask the General Medical Council -- if public confidence is your aim, why such a harsh decision which will have such a devastating effect on all in his care?
Our daughter Chloe has been in Mr Giele's care for 5 years since birth and we have never met such a sincere, honest, professional man in all our hours spent with the NHS -- and we have spent many! If more staff were to take a leaf out of his book, the NHS would be a far better place.
We can't stress enough how strongly we feel about this, but I am sure we speak on behalf of many people.
Can we appeal to the GMC to consider the interests of patients? At the moment, no-one wins. Lee and Clare Binns, Hill Close, Chipping Norton
