In a town that is so short of green open spaces, it is with disbelief that I read in your sister paper, the Didcot Herald, that Didcot Town Council should be considering selling one acre of Smallbone recreation ground.
Following lobbying by railway workers, the ground was created with swings and other amusements and opened to the public on July 8, 1916.
Over the years, the ground has been eroded by buildings and is now about a third of the size it was. Do we want it to disappear altogether?
I urge you to write to your town councillors and let them know your views or attend the annual town meeting at the Civic Hall on May 19 at 7.30pm. Richard Polley, Cronshaw Close, Didcot
