Dermot Roaf, leader of the Liberal Democrats at County Hall, tells us that there is a case for charging for residents' parking in Oxford and that residents would be consulted after the election (Oxford Mail, May 3).
The city council has argued that it would be unlawful to charge, and I, like a number of residents of this city, would agree. Surely the same arguments stand today as they did before when this issued was raised? How can you charge for a service that does not exist?
My street, off Botley Road, has about 36 houses but only about 20 parking spaces. How can the county council justify charging the residents of my street? Of course, we all know the answer -- it's a nice little earner.
