Carterton 1, Didcot Town 5: Didcot Town had the perfect preparation for next week's FA Vase final with an emphatic victory in the GLS Hellenic League Cup final at Milton on Saturday.

The Railwaymen proved too strong for a weakened Carterton side, and their victory guaranteed they would finish the season with some silverware, and maintained their hope of a historic double against AFC Sudbury at White Hart Lane this Saturday.

The result never looked in doubt as soon as prolific striker Ian Concannon had swept Didcot into a third-minute lead.

A flowing move on the left resulted in Stuart Beavon crossing to Concannon, who was unmarked, and he made no mistake from close range.

Another terrific attack presented Andy Parrott with a great chance, but Carterton keeper Nick Heritage pulled off a brilliant save.

Didcot stretched their lead midway through the half.

Matty Jack cut inside on the left and fed Beavon, who turned in one movement and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net from just inside the penalty area.

Carterton's Mark Odom headed narrowly over the bar, before Didcot scored a third on 30 minutes.

Beavon's shot from 25 yards took a slight deflection, which wrong-footed Heritage and settled in the bottom corner of the net.

James Mortimer-Jones almost pulled a goal back for Carterton before the break, but Town keeper Chris Webb pulled off a diving save to ensure the score was 3-0 at the interval.

Battling Carterton found themselves back in the game three minutes into the second half when Darryl Kew scored with a free-kick from 20 yards.

However, it only took Didcot a couple of minutes to restore a three-goal cushion. A pin-point cross from Bradley Ward landed at the feet of Concannon, who finished with typical precision.

A minute later, Didcot were awarded a penalty for handball by Mortimer-Jones.

Beavon took it, but Heritage managed to block his effort low to his left and then claim the ball before it rolled over the goal-line.

Didcot's league campaign started with a narrow win at Witney courtesy of a stunning strike from Parrott.

Fittingly, their Hellenic season finished in identical fashion as Parrott rounded off the scoring with a brilliant long-range shot into the top corner of Heritage's net.

Didcot could have added further goals.

But they were happy to settle for a 5-1 win and with no new injury worries ahead of the Sudbury showdown.
