Oxford City's Steve Male took the honours as the Kidlington-hosted 2005 Mota-vation road race series got under way in dry, but chilly conditions at Charlton-on-Otmoor.
A record entry of 306 runners turned out for the event, which also formed part of the Oxfordshire AA Grand Prix series, with Male, now running as a veteran, leading throughout the race.
Such was his dominance, he took a full minute off his 2004 time, finishing only 15 seconds off the course record as he trounced the three senior men who had beaten him in last year's series.
Male crossed the line for the four-mile race in 20mins 40secs, finishing 30 seconds clear of Headington Roadrunners' Gary Harris.
It was a night of veteran successes, as Nicola Gomm (Witney Roadrunners), led home the ladies' race.
She finished well clear of the Headington trio of Diane Moore, Sophie Whitworth and Carley Ekert, whose tight packing gave them an early lead in the ladies team competition.
Further good packing, with six runners home in the top 20, enabled Woodstock Harriers to open up a substantial early lead in the men's team competition.
In the other categories, Woodstock Harriers' Bryan Vaughan and Mike Shipway headed the Vet 50 and Vet 60 age groups, while Oxford City's Gwyneth Hueter and Eynsham Roadrunners' Kate Williamson won their respective divisions.
