During the General Election, we heard a great deal from the press, radio and TV journalists about the need for politicians to be truthful and trustworthy.
As a result, leading politicians were well and truly put on trial by the media. By the way some of the media conducted interviews and reported the election, sometimes with serious misreporting, is it too much to hope that they should also face the same test as they inflicted on the politicians?
The unnecessarily aggressive and point-scoring approach of some journalists, in particular Jeremy Paxman, John Humphrys and David and Jonathan Dimbleby, may well have increased the level of political disengagement of electors.
Who, I wonder, is willing and brave enough to tackle this serious problem before it becomes a danger to our democracy?
