A body has been found in a flat in Oxford's Rose Hill estate, just a few doors from where a woman died in mysterious circumstances in February.
Police would not confirm if the person found dead at 42 Kyle Court, Clinton Close, on May 11 was a man or a woman, but neighbours believe it to be a man they knew as Matthew. Police are not treating the death as suspicious.
Three months ago, Frances Briggs, 30, was found dead in her flat in Kyle Court. A postmortem investigation into the cause of her death was inconclusive and the results of further toxicology tests have not yet come back.
A 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder shortly after she died. He was given police bail.
Last night, police forensics experts joined officers in the investigation of the flat at about 7.30pm.
They did not seal off the scene, but refused to give any details.
One neighbour, who declined to be named, said Frances Briggs and Matthew were friends.
"They were always round each other's flats," she said. "What a waste of a life. It's very sad."
An inspector at the Thames Valley Police headquarters said: "There has been a death. This is not a suspicious death. It is a matter for the family."
