Are designated drivers being exploited?
We went out to meet friends at an Oxfordshire riverside inn. I was amazed at the price of a pint of cola. I was charged £2.50, as much as a pint of beer.
There was nothing special about this drink. It did not come in a specially marked glass or was waiter served. It was obtained after waiting in a long, slow-moving queue.
It was a long queue because it was a Bank Holiday sunny evening with a small staff working.
Having recently holidayed in America, where after buying a reasonably priced, first soft drink, all refills were free, I found this high price unacceptable. Yes, designated drivers are being exploited.
