Travellers on South Parks Travellers descended on South Parks in Oxford last night (Friday), cutting through chains to drive more than 10 caravans on to parkland.
Residents in the area noticed caravans arriving from 6pm and immediately called police.
But at 9.30pm there were still caravans arriving at the site, to the dismay of neighbours.
One resident, Joan Russell, of Cross Street, said: "We noticed the travellers start to arrive and couldn't figure out where they were coming from. They just kept on coming in.
"We've had problems with travellers in the parks before and I just hope they're not here to stay. Last time, it took them a long time to get moved on and it proved very troublesome. Lots of residents here are concerned."
A Thames Valley Police spokesman confirmed they had been alerted to the problem and were investigating.
