Sudbury manager Gary Harvey claimed his side would have won the FA Vase final if they had hit top form.
Harvey was understandably disappointed his team had lost their third consecutive final and admitted some of his players lacked the big-match temperament.
Having won the Eastern Counties Premier Division for the past five seasons, Sudbury are no strangers to silverware, but Harvey said this did not make the loss any easier.
He said: "We had five or six players who did themselves justice today, but four or five who didn't.
"They should have been relishing the atmosphere and enjoying the day. But some are clearly not suited to the big occasion.
"I just know what we are capable of and I felt confident that we were a strong and positive enough side to beat Didcot. It was obviously very, very disappointing."
Harvey rated Didcot similar to Sudbury's 2003 conquerors Brigg Town, but worse than last year's winners Winchester City.
He added: "If we played to anything like our potential, we would have won the game."
Harvey praised the contribution of Shane Wardley, despite the left back scoring at both ends.
Wardley bravely faced the press despite his own goal trauma, and said his 25-yard screamer at the right end was one of the best he had scored.
He said: "I'm a defender so I take any goal really. It was a good build-up, I thought Sam Banya was going to take it off me, but I just lashed it into the back of the net."
Wardley added: "We felt we played better in the first half. They had a couple of early chances and then I really thought it was going to be our year."
