Stuart Peace hailed Didcot Town's FA Vase triumph as the greatest day in the club's 98-year history as Stuart Beavon bagged a brace to seal a memorable 3-2 win over AFC Sudbury at White Hart Lane on Saturday.
Beavon struck in the 54th and 90th minutes, sand- wiching a Shane Wardley own goal to inflict a third successive final defeat on their Suffolk opponents.
Peace could not hide his delight as his side's display.
"This is an incredible day - the greatest triumph ever for this club," Peace said.
"I don't think anyone ever thought that we would be talking about winning the Vase.
"We've had a great journey through, but this is just an unbelieveable feeling.
"When we beat Gosport in the third round, I felt we could have a bit of a run, but to go all the way is something beyond our wildest dreams."
Didcot have been fav- ourites to lose in each of the last three rounds, and Peace said it took a huge amount of pressure off his team.
"We've been underdogs throughout," he said. "But I think that's helped us.
"We were very confident today, and we knew that if we played to our potential, we had the opportunity to win it.
"We didn't get the chance to express ourselves in the first half, because Sudbury were definitely the best team we have played this season.
"With a bit of luck and better finishing, Sudbury could have been 2-0 up at half-time, and should have been.
"We didn't feel that we gave enough of the ball to those players who can win matches.
Didcot's fans outnumbered Sudbury almost two to one.
Peace said: "To see so many Didcot fans out there was just beyond our wildest dreams.
"They outsang Sudbury, and I'm just delighted for them. This victory is for them. It's a very special day - one to savour for ever."
