Oxford United may invite Didcot Town's FA Vase hero Stuart Beavon for another trial after his White Hart Lane wonder show.
The Coca-Cola League Two club say they have kept tabs on the 21-year-old's progress throughout his career, and the glowing reports they have back from his two-goal performance in Saturday's 3-2 final win over AFC Sudbury could well prompt another invitation to come and train with the U's.
Les Taylor, United's youth development officer, said: "We did ask Stuart to come for a trial at the back end of last season.
"I contacted his dad to ask about it but unfortunately Stuart developed a small hamstring injury at the time.
"Then when that cleared up we asked again and he didn't want to come in.
"We keep tabs on all the local players and have had reports back from the Vase final as well.
"Doors are never closed to these types of players. If lads merit a trial all we can do is ask them in, but it's up to them whether they take it up."
Beavon is well-known to Oxford United anyway because of his family connections.
His grandfather, Cyril, was the first player to make 500 appearances for the club after joining from Wolves, and with Ron Atkinson and Maurice Kyle, formed 'The Trio' - the famous defensive combination that was the bedrock of United's famous climb from the Southern League to the Second Division in the 60s.
And dad Stuart enjoyed a similarly outstanding professional career with Reading and Tottenham, playing nearly 500 games for the Royals.
In the Oxford Mail last November, Cyril Beavon said what a quality striker he thought his grandson Stuart was.
"He's a hell of a player, a natural finisher," he said. "I'm really surprised Oxford United haven't come in for him."
Dad Stuart said recently: "It's time a professional club gave him a chance. A club should give him a year, build him up a bit and see what he can do."
Yet Taylor said: "Stuart was with us as an under 14 and we have kept tabs on him since.
"He did well at Wallingford and we looked to see whether he could take it on to the next step up at Didcot, and now the question is, can he take it on to the next step up again?"
