I was not surprised to read the response by councillor Briony Newport (Oxford Mail, May 13) to my earlier letter regarding the unnecessary closure of Oseney Court old people's home in Botley Road, Oxford.
The General Election may be over, but politicians continue to spin the facts to suit their ambitions.
Not all parties agreed, as she stated, to the closure of the Oseney Court.
The Green Party, to its credit, opposed this option at the council meeting, together with several maverick Labour councillors.
As I recall, after the elderly residents, against their wishes, were evicted, the 'derelict' building was prepared for use by asylum seekers/refugees.
If closure was indeed necessary, then the vulnerable residents ought to have been allowed to end their remaining days there, before rebuilding took place.
Now that the new housing is "bringing people of all ages into the area", perhaps Mrs Newport and her fellow Liberal councillors will see fit to bring into the area some of the many social facilities that are common throughout the rest of the Vale of White Horse, but sadly missing in Botley.
