The report into the state of our roads and pavements makes depressing reading.
In the 21st century, we should be able to drive, cycle and walk in safety, but in many parts of the country, including Oxfordshire, we can't.
You don't have to go far these days to find a pothole or uneven surface which puts you at risk.
The fact is that we have failed to invest properly in our transport infrastructure.
For years, expenditure in this field has been low on our list of priorities.
It is true that money has been invested in major routes -- many of our motorways and A roads have been renewed and are now in good condition.
But this cannot be said of many urban and rural roads and pavements which have been starved of cash.
Too often transport is seen as an easy option for spending cuts.
Delays in carrying out repairs and improvements can only stack up problems in the future.
