BANBURY United striker Howard Forinton is set to sign for Southern League Premier Division rivals Halesowen Town.
Manager Kevin Brock said the club were unable to match the wages being offered by the Midlands club to the 29-year-old former Oxford City frontman, who lives in Leamington.
"I haven't spoken to him yet, but if he does go it would be a blow, because he was tremendous for us," said Brock.
"But we're not in a position to offer players lots of money. If we tried to match Halesowen's offer we would kill ourselves."
Forinton, who played at the top level for Birmingham City before going into non-league with Stevenage, Farnborough and Yeovil, has scored goals regularly.
He netted 22 for Banbury last term.
OXFORD City, in addition to their pre-season match against Oxford United, will be taking on Wycombe Wanderers at Court Place Farm on Tuesday, August 2.
