CCS Home Counties Premier League: Aston Rowant stole a march on all their rivals by recording a six-wicket victory in their Division 2 West clash at home to NPL Teddington on Saturday.
While the rest of the league programme was a complete wash-out, Rowant escaped the worst of the weather to win.
The match started on time, but after a long interruption for rain, it was reduced to the minimum 70 overs.
NPL could have batted for for 39 of these, but after their batsmen gorged themselves on Rowant's weak attack, they decided to declare on 195-3 after 36.5 overs.
Considering the slow outfield, this was a stiff target for Rowant, but despite losing two early wickets, they went for the runs.
With opener Tim Morgan anchoring the innings with an unbeaten 59, runs came quickly at the other end.
Tim Bant hit an aggressive 43, but the match-winning innings came from Paul Plumridge with a rapid unbeaten 46, which saw them home with seven balls to spare.
So, while every other team had to settle for six points, Rowant collected 25 to hurtle up to third in the table.
