A steam engine fan who would wait for hours to catch a two-second glimpse of one puffing past has died, aged 62.
Roger Caddick Former Oxford Mail worker Roger Caddick, of Old Road, Wheatley, Oxford, was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease more than a year ago and passed away on May 17.
He was born in Forest Hill on June 9, 1942, the first child and only son born to Fred and the late Beryl Caddick.
Two sisters, Susan, who lives in Marcham, near Abingdon, and Judy, of Coombe, followed.
Mr Caddick was educated at Stanton St John Infant School and what was then known as Wheatley School before starting his first job at the Oxford Mail in the late 1950s. He worked as an apprentice compositor, putting pages together before they went to the press, for 30 years before moving to take on a similar position at the Newbury Weekly News. He retired 15 years later, aged 58.
In 1963 Mr Caddick met his wife-to-be Marie and they married soon after.
They had three children: Stephen, 37, of Steeple Aston, Christopher, 26, of Bicester, and Charlotte, 29, of Bristol, and four grandchildren.
Mrs Caddick, shared 40 happy years with her husband, who was a keen gardener and fisherman.
She said he was well-liked by everyone he met and never lost his temper.
She added: "He was the most wonderful man that walked the earth. He was such a nice man. I can't praise him highly enough."
