Oxford University student Caroline Cobb won the inaugural Robert Nairac Memorial Trophy after beating RAF rival Deborah MacDonald at the Oxford Union in her first victory.
Nairac helped revive the fortunes of the University's Amateur Boxing Club during his time at Oxford.
Cobb, the 23-year-old Texan southpaw, who is studying languages at Pembroke College, and MacDonald both gave determined and stylish displays in the best contest of the seven-bout Town v Gown tournament.
The American, who only made her debut a week before, edged ahead in the final two rounds as she repeatedly connected with a succession of well-placed straight lefts.
MacDonald, 33, the first woman to box in RAF colours, tried switching stance to match her rival, but lost on a split decision.
Left-hander James Whitman claimed the second University win by using his extra reach to claim a close split-decision over Bulmershe rival Ibrahim Riaz.
Zephan Trent was the lone Oxford boxer to claim the votes of all three ringside judges after a determined late rally swung the verdict in his clash with St Albans rival Ives Kinsiona.
Lincoln College's Michio Inove tired towards the end allowing Michael Connolly, from St Albans, to claim a unanimous decision.
Perry Jones had the measure of Oxford southpaw John Dennen, imposing two standing counts before the bout was halted midway through the second round.
And Leo Vincent was bowled over twice before being stopped by Oxford Brookes rival James Thrower in the third period.
With match tied 3-3, fellow southpaw Julian Murrow beat University captain Tom Frejie by a split decision.
Abingdon's Darren Cuddy claimed a unanimous verdict over St Albans rival John Cash in the supporting schoolboy bout.
