Oxfordshire completed a hat-trick of wins in their Middleton Cup trial matches with a 117-88 victory over Gloucestershire at Banbury Central.

With wins over Wiltshire and Northants already under their belts, it was just what Oxon required ahead of their opening cup game against Berkshire at Suttons, Lower Earley, Reading on Saturday, June 4.

Oxfordshire won on five of the six rinks, with Robert Clanfield's four of Lee Young, Stuart Richens and Andy Wise providing their most convincing success when overpowering Graham Griffiths 25-12.

Not far behind was Calvin Carpenter's quartet of Nick Welsh, Nathan Lewis and Mark Sykes, who swept aside Steve Knight 21-9.

Oxon's three other vic- tories were narrow suc- cesses.

Gary Lucas's side of Keith Holloway, Paul Comley and Les Campion beat Keith Hinder 18-16, while Ryan Buckett's four of Spencer Townsend, Richard Redford and Chris Earl defeated Graham Phillips 20-17.

Alan Ley's rink of Jim Gamage, Barry Lambourne and Robin Hewson completed Oxon's nap hand with a tight 15-11 win over Paul Bryant.

The only reverse came when Colin Whitehead's four of John Philpott, Mick Nash and Sammy Timms went down 23-18 to Andy Letts.

For their cup opener, Oxon give debuts to Banbury Central duo Lee Young and Spencer Townsend, while Carterton's Robert Clanfield returns to the team after being unavailable last year.Oxfordshire 117, Gloucestershire 88
