An investigation is under way into how a disabled pupil received injuries to his back while attending a special school in Oxfordshire.

Nigel and Belinda Isle, of Evenlode Drive, Berinsfield, claim their 11-year-old son Aiden came home from the Kingfisher School in Abingdon with carpet burn injuries to his back.

After picking him up from school and discovering his injuries, the couple said they took him for medical treatment and reported the matter to police, who are continuing their investigations.

Aiden, who has cerebral palsy, which means he has poor coordination and learning difficulties, is being kept at home by his parents until the inquiry is complete.

Aiden Isle with grandmother Ann Makepeace Mrs Isle, who has four other children, said Aiden could not cope with mainstream school and was home-tutored until three months ago when he started at the Kingfisher School.

She believes he was having a tantrum at the time of the alleged incident and had wanted to come home.

She said: "I didn't know anything about it until my husband picked him up from school and was told that Aiden had a small carpet burn.

"When he pulled his top up and showed us his back, I was absolutely devastated. You do not expect your child to come home from school with injuries like that.

"He's in pain and he doesn't know what's going to happen. It's heartbreaking.

"We're extremely worried that our child received these injuries and we want to know exactly what happ- ened."

Ann O'Meara, headteacher of the school in Radley Road, which caters for pupils with severe learning difficulties, said: "The matter is under investigation and there is no comment to make at the moment."

A police spokesman said: "We are investigating an allegation of assault. Inquiries are ongoing. No-one has been arrested."
