Another Oxfordshire family is having to deal with the grief of losing a teenage daughter after she lost her battle for life in Oxford's John Radcliffe Hospital.

Gemma Blackman, 15, died six days after the car she was travelling in hit a tree just outside her home village of Middle Barton.

Her death follows that of another 15-year-old girl, Sarah Ertl, from Somerton, near Bicester, who died at the scene of the crash on May 21.

On May 27 another tribute was added to the flowers and messages already left at the roadside by the family and school friends of Sarah.

The parents of Gemma have now added their own sad message for their beloved daughter, accompanied by a bouquet of flowers.

The simple card carries the printed words: "I believe that the thoughts of those who care about you can make a difference," followed by a handwritten message: "To Gem, I want you to know we love you, however often I think of you now and forever. Missing you so much. You know we will always be with you. Until we meet again, Mum, Cliff and Dad xxx"

The family were yesterday too shocked to talk about their loss, but it is understood they only recently moved to the village.

Gemma continued to go to Carterton Community College. Last night no-one from the school was prepared to comment on her death but pupils had left tributes of flowers by the school gates.

A neighbour, who did not want to be named, said she did not know Gemma but was deeply shocked to learn of her death.

She said: "It's really terrible -- I can't believe it. I saw a police car outside the house earlier and wondered what had happened."

She said she did not think the family had lived in the village for long as she had not seen Gemma around.

The accident happened on the B4030 near Middle Barton at about 7.35pm when a black Toyota Yaris hit a tree. No other vehicle was involved.

The parents of the other girl who died, Christine and Toni Ertl, sent a card to Gemma's family as soon as the police informed them she had died.

Mother Christine Ertl said: "They have our deepest sympathies. If there is anything we can do, we are there for them if they need us."

Sarah's boyfriend, the 17-year-old driver of the car, escaped uninjured from the crash

Sarah, a former pupil of Steeple Aston Primary School, had been with her boyfriend, who has not been named, for about 19 months.

She went to Marlborough School in Woodstock, where a memory board was put up in the school foyer, and was covered with tributes from friends.

Anyone with information about the crash can contact police on 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
