You report that Oxford City Council is trying to recover unpaid council tax going back many years (Oxford Mail, May 12).
This raises a serious question of maladministration and ineptitude in allowing people to deliberately and repeatedly ignore the mandatory council tax bills.
It is beyond belief that councillors and administrators of this authority responsible for managing the council's finances have allowed a deficit of £1.6m to accumulate.
It is obvious that the debtors remain determined to show their indifference and contempt for the powers of this authority.
I suggest that Paul Warters, the council's revenue and benefits officers, contacts the Inland Revenue and inquires how it successfully gathers money from the entire working population every year.
