A 26-year-old man was left in a critical condition after he was stabbed in Blackbird Leys last night.
Oxford police have appealed for witnesses following what they are treating as an "isolated incident".
The attack happened in Warburg Crescent shortly before 8pm.
The victim is now in the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. He is recovering after surgery but remains in a critical condition.
Thames Valley Police said the incident happened in the street in daylight. Officers were alerted after ambulance crews were called, minutes after the incident. Detectives cordoned off the area and carried out a search for evidence.
It is not yet known if a weapon has been found and no arrest has been made.
From 7am today, seven local neighbourhood officers, four police community support officers and council wardens were conducting further enquiries and offering reassurance to residents in a bid to address any fears or concerns they may have following the incident.
Anyone with concerns, or information, should contact an officer, PCSO or warden or call police on 08458 505505. They can call the Crimestoppers service on 0800 555111 if they don't want to speak to a police officer.
