BRIAN Talbot has banned mobile phones from the Kassam Stadium as part of his disciplinary shake-up.

The Oxford United manager has issued the U's squad and his coaching staff with a code of conduct, which must be adhered to when at the ground.

And the use of mobiles has now been strictly banned.

One club official said that the code of conduct had "a much better form of structure to it", and was "the most thorough for quite some time".

I understand that Talbot told the players before they went on their summer break that when they are at the stadium, football should be the only thing on their mind, which means that using a phone is now prohibited.

Talbot, who vowed when he was appointed as United boss to clamp down on indiscipline at the club, has also imposed harsh fines for players who arrive late at either training or on match days.

"I'm going to be bringing in some rules and regulations," he said, the day after he landed the job.

"There will be a code of conduct, training will be earlier, treatments will be earlier - I feel it has been too flexible in the past - and I've told the players that if we need to be in on a Sunday, we will be.

"Hopefully, we will get them fit and organised and playing passing football."
