Richard Dix (Oxford Mail, June 1) said: "There has not been a strong case for providing a crash barrier on the Eastern Bypass until now".
Just to ease my mind could he please tell me why from November 2000 until last weekend there have been at least two cases of vehicles crossing the centre reservation causing very serious injuries -- in the second one I was one very seriously injured.
And yet during the last two years they have spent £300,000 on building a cycle-footpath from Roman Way to Horspath village and at the same time the council admits this road has no record of accidents involving pedestrians or cyclists?
I can only think safety was not the prime reason for spending £300,000 on this path and they put a higher price on whatever they are planning behind closed doors than they do on four young people's lives.
I hope they feel proud of themselves. Keith Brooks, Gateley, Horspath
