Work is continuing on two projects to provide community recreational facilities on fields in Wantage and Grove.
Vale of White Horse District Council officers are working on plans for the use of Tugwell Field in Wantage -- a piece of land which has been set aside for recreational use.
Nick Garnett, the district council's assistant director of leisure, reported to the executive that talks were under way with Wantage Silver Band and Wantage Concorde Football Club to maximise the use of the site.
The executive heard that plans by the band to add a barn-style building on the site had been sent to the county council -- which owns the land -- for approval, and once permission had been obtained, a final scheme would be developed.
Mr Garnett added that the band, which has been searching for a new home for some time, was happy with the idea of having a multi-use community building rather than one it had exclusive use of.
Meanwhile, the district council is also hoping to work with Grove Parish Council on plans to develop two football pitches on land at Mably Way.
The district council's executive, which has agreed to the idea in principle, heard that officers were still waiting to hear from the parish council what its involvement in the project would be.
Another suggestion of using the Mably Way site for a lorry and coach park has been ruled out, as a covenant that governs how the council can use the land states it can only be used for recreational purposes.
