Oxford United striker Craig Davies may know little about Charlton's attempts to sign him, but believes the constant references to him in the media are not doing his career any harm.
"I've only heard what's been in the papers, I've not had a call or been told anything by Oxford," said the 19-year-old striker.
"I've been a bit in the dark because I've been away with Wales in Spain and then away on holiday.
"The Charlton link is obviously flattering but it doesn't mean anything. There had been a lot of paper talk before about Stoke and Southampton, but that was just rubbish.
"But in a way I'm glad my name is getting thrown about - it's not doing me any harm to have my name cropping up in the national papers so often and makes a few clubs aware of me."
Last season Davies signed a new deal with the U's after making such a big impact when he burst onto the scene under Ramon Diaz.
The former Manchester City trainee also did his future prospects no harm by impressing when on the Wales training camp at the end of last month.
He was one of a handful of Wales Under 21 players called into the squad by national team boss John Toshack, and he and Robert Earnshaw, of West Brom, were the only two strikers in the party.
"It went really well," Craig said. "Brian Flynn told me I did well and that John Toshack had been pleased with me.
"We just played practice games against each other, but I thought I held my own.
"The get-together was for some of the Under 21s to get to know the first-teamers, and if any of the 21s get called upon to step in, in the next two games - the friendly against Slovenia, or the England World Cup tie - then we would be able to do that more easily.
"The Slovenia friendly is on August 17 and the England game is at the Millennium Stadium on September 3.
"For me personally to be involved against England would be unbelievable, but I'm still young and if I'm playing for the Under 21s instead I'd be quite happy with that."
Davies is well known in the dressing room corridors at the Kassam Stadium as being chirpy and brash.
But even he admitted being a little daunted to be surrounded by many of the senior players in the Wales party.
