Experts recorded the coldest ever June temperature at an Oxfordshire weather station yesterday (Tuesday).
Benson, near Wallingford, felt the chill, with the Met Office logging an overnight temperature of 0.3C.
A Met Office spokesman said it had never been that cold in Benson in June before.
He said: "It is very unusual.
"It is quite common to get ground frost at this time of year, but to get actual air frost is very rare.
"There were quite clear skies and no wind which is a good ingredient for a cold night.
"In fact it was one of the coldest nights in the South East."
Weather conditions at RAF Brize Norton, which has a Met Office centre at its army base, were warmer -- at 4.1C. But meteorologist Mike Bench said that was the coldest June night temperature recorded at the base since 1991.
The night's lowest temperature of -1.1C was recorded at Aboyne in Scotland.
Minimum temperatures in Cornwall and Anglesey were above 10C -- a long way off the all-time lowest June temperatures of 5.6C.
With high pressure set to dominate our weather system over the next few days, the pattern of chilly nights is forecast to continue. But with plenty of sunshine forecast during the day, minimum temperatures are not expected to dip so low.
