I read with interest the letter from Richard Dix, Oxfordshire County Council's interim head of transport, on the condition of pavements in the county (Oxford Mail, June 6).
I wonder when he was last in Risinghurst, Oxford, because there are certainly some appalling examples of disrepair on this estate.
Risinghurst is an area where pavements and verges have been damaged by over-riding vehicles for a number of years.
The increase in car ownership has created great damage to the local environment. However, locals tell me that no 'official' repairs have ever been made to most of the estate pavements.
Residents have in some cases resorted to repairing the pavements themselves and asphalting or gravelling the verges.
This creates significant difficulty for the visually impaired, elderly, disabled and those with wheelchairs or buggies.
To my knowledge, there are no dropped kerbs at junctions for wheelchair access in the area.
I would like to invite Mr Dix to accompany me on a (cautious) walkabout of Risinghurst.
Perhaps we could then establish when Risinghurst pavements might expect some much-needed attention.
