A cancer charity is urging people to join its Bring a £1 to Work Day later this month and help patients being treated in Oxford.

Macmillan Cancer Relief wants as many firms as possible to sign up for the event on June 29.

Money raised will be used to pay for a new Macmillan clinical nurse specialist in bone and soft tissue cancer to be based at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington.

Organiser Jo Faulkner-Harvey, fundraising manager for Oxfordshire, said: "Each and every day 739 people in the UK are told they have cancer. Around 2,500 people in Oxfordshire are diagnosed with cancer every year.

"Macmillan Cancer Relief helps many of them come to terms with that news and get on with their lives.

"You can help support our work by setting aside just one day, June 29, to join in our Bring A £1 to Work event, by encouraging your staff to donate at least £1 each to help local people affected by cancer.

"You would be surprised at how all those pounds mount up.

"All you have to do is gather in the money, we have loads of ideas to keep your staff interested. Macmillan collectors will call at your premises on June 29 to pick up your donation."
