Witney United striker Lee Keyes is set to end a week of confusion by completing a move to Oxford City - just days after telling the Hellenic League Premier Division club that he was staying put.

Last week a press release from Oxford City hailed Keyes as the first capture of new boss Andy Lyne's reign at Court Place Farm.

However, Witney denied Keyes had signed for City, and claimed he was in talks with United boss Alan Clark.

But Keyes said yesterday: "I will be joining City within the next 24 hours. I have had a lot of grief over this.

"I had a great time at Witney - I really enjoyed it. Money is not the reason for going.

"I am moving for footballing reasons and a new challenge."

Meanwhile, former City midfielder Nigel Emsden has rejoined the club.

Emsden, who started his career at Oxford United, is one of five City signings.

Along with Keyes, the others are ex-Didcot Town defender Adam Pilling, who played for Lyne when he was boss at AFC Newbury, former Thame United and Wantage Town striker Sam Belcher, and New Bradwell defender Shaun Kennedy.

Local MP David Cameron has agreed to become Witney United's club patron. Former MP Douglas Hurd held the position at Witney Town.

Didcot Town manager Stuart Peace has signed Wantage Town player-of-the-year Paul Bedwell.

The 22-year-old is a defender, who previously played under Peace at Wantage.
