City of Oxford's Sam van de Schootbrugge, Matthew Corbett and Laura Ralph have booked their places in the national finals in Sheffield next month.

And they did it in style, with a nine-medal haul at the Midland District Age Group championships in Coventry.

The national champion- ships take place at the Yorkshire city's Ponds Forge on July 30.

Corbett, 14, swam his five events in national qualifying times, the best of which was a stunning win in the 400m IM, in a personal best of 4mins, 50.31secs.

He came second in the 200m backstroke in 2.17.50 and finished third in both the 100m butterfly (1.02.35) and 100m backstroke (1.05.55).

He was eighth in the 200m freestyle (2.11.22.78) as he finished second in his age group on points.

Ralph struck bronze in 800m freestyle in a personal best national qualifying time of 9.48.27 and was second in 100m breaststroke.

However, she gleaned enough points from the previous weekend to win her age group trophy.

Van de Schootbrugge, 12, competed in the same events as Corbett, achieving four national qualifying times.

He won a total of three bronze medals in 400m IM (5.25.91), 200m back (2.32.44), 100m backstroke (1.12.34) and finished sixth in 200m free (2.18.57).

The result saw Van de Schootbrugge finish fourth in his age group.

Wantage White Horses took fourth place at the Read Trophy Gala in Windsor.

Katy Roberts celebrated her first win in the girls under 15 100m backstroke.

George Collings (under 11, 50m breaststroke and 50m butterfly), Stephanie Burbidge (under 13, 50m backstroke), Jack Geden (open 100m freestyle) and Sarah Oldham (open 100m backstroke) all won silver medals to complete an impressive Wantage display.
