Former Chinnor flanker David Seymour's fairytale first season in professional rugby shows no sign of letting up.

The Saracens man was voted the best flanker in round one of the IRB Under 21 World Championship in Argentina after starring in England's 52-22 defeat of Samoa.

But speaking ahead of last night's clash with South Africa, he said there was plenty more to come.

Seymour said: "I wouldn't have said Samoa was my best match by a long shot.

"It's my first game back after injury, so it felt like I was getting back into the swing of things.

"Some areas that I wanted to work on came off really well, but there were others that I need to sharpen up for South Africa."

Seymour's teammate, hooker Neil Briggs, was the only other England player to make the all-star line-up drawn up by the Argentine press.

And both of them have proved relative latecomers to the international scene, not getting called up until under 21 level.

Seymour said: "When I was at school, Tom Dawes and another Chinnor teammate of mine played for England 16s, but I always missed out.

"I played for enjoyment, hoping something might come out of it in the end."

Seymour played for Oxfordshire in the County Championship Plate final at Twickenham in 2003, signed for Saracens a year later and made England's Under 21 Six Nations team in 2005.

He made 25 first-team appearances last season as his game really took off playing alongside the likes of Taine Randell, Hugh Vyvian, Richard Hill and Alex Sanderson.

Seymour said: "I've learned endless amounts from them, especially Richard Hill.

"On videos he picks up the sort of things that I would never have noticed, certain running angles to get to certain breakdowns and communication with other players, they just make such a difference.

"I know what my weaknesses are and I try to work as hard on them, if not harder, than my strengths and I really enjoy the game."
