HENLEY CC are in danger of losing 25 points for their CCS Home Counties Premier League win over Oxford last month after reports that they fielded an unregistered player.

League officials have launched a probe after Dane Ferrar played for the reigning champions in the four-wicket win at Roman Way on Saturday, May 28.

Henley raised the matter of Ferrar's eligibility with the umpires and Oxford captain Pat Jobson before the match.

He didn't bat or bowl in the game, but took an important catch to dismiss Oxford's Indian all-rounder, Ronak Sekhri, when he had made 33.

League secretary Roger Garrini said: "There is an inquiry going on at the moment.

"It is debatable whether the lad in question played as a substitute or as a player.

"If it was as a substitute he is not allowed to bat or bowl and we are trying to find out. That is the simple answer."

League registration secretary Martin House and fixtures and results secretary John Goodman are leading the investigation.

"It depends on what is on the paperwork," added Garrini. "They will look at it and then they will come to a decision."

League rules state that if a club field an unregistered player, they will lose all the points they gained from the match in question.

Henley chairman Danny Hall said: "Dane's just a 16-year-old, and we were playing him to give him experience.

"Somehow, his name was left off our list of registrations for the league."
