Your article (Oxford Mail, June 13) captured the vibrant atmosphere of Sunday's Cowley Road Carnival in Oxford.
Congratulations to coordinator Henrietta Gill and her team for making this year's event bigger and better than ever. This was in no small way made possible by the carnival's participation in Evolving City and we were delighted that the carnival gave the opportunity for other Evolving City projects to be performed in public on the youth and dance stages.
Evolving City is a year-long programme of cultural events, coordinated by Oxford Inspires and funded with Lottery money through the Urban Cultural Programme.
This year, Cowley Road Carnival received just over one third of its funding through Evolving City.
While thousands were enjoying the carnival in car-free Cowley Road, a new exhibition, Oxford 2015, also part of the Evolving City programme, was attracting visitors to Modern Art Oxford in the city centre.
These events, and many more in the coming months, including European drama, and festival showcases for multicultural, disability and youth arts, are designed to encourage people to explore, reflect and celebrate the changing nature of Oxford and Oxfordshire.
